Discipleship

At Church of the Living Christ, we approach discipleship with intentionality and purpose. We’ve created a three-fold strategy which enables Christians to grow in their walk with God. Here’s how we approach discipleship:

Formation

Everyone who follows Jesus becomes a disciple and discipleship is a lifelong process (Luke 9:23). The word “disciple” implies following and learning. Discipleship is active and it requires purposeful engagement. Similar to a runner who trains diligently and disciplines themselves to become the best they can be, so the Christian disciple dedicates him- or herself to becoming like Jesus.

We believe discipleship happens on multiple levels, including through the practice of spiritual disciplines, mentoring relationships, and corporate worship. We offer the tools and resources for the Christians to engage in spiritual formation.

Empowerment

Christian discipleship is not based on human strength or human creativity. Both are needed, but a fruitful Christian life is a result of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The Bible confirms that the empowerment that comes from the Holy Spirit is the key ingredient in the discipleship process (Zechariah 4:6; John 20:19-23; Acts 2:1-13; Acts 4:23-31).

Application

Discipleship happens in the context of real life and it needs to be fleshed out at home, work, and in the community. At Church of the Living Christ, we are intentional about creating opportunities for people to walk out the life of a disciple and apply their giftings through various service projects and ministry experiences.
